'Le Christ au Roseau'
1860Albumen print? | RCIN 2865061
Photograph of a work by Ary Scheffer, a 1857 version of which is now in the Musée des beaux-arts de Cambrai, France. The image depicts a half-length portrait of Christ standing behind a stone balustrade and facing slightly to the left. He is depicted crowned with thorn, his hands tied together holding a reed sceptre. A male figure standing behind him to the left places a cloak over his shoulders.
Ary Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
