'La Bataille de Morat'
1860Albumen print? | RCIN 2865019
Photograph of a work by Ary Scheffer, a 1829 version of which is now at the Musée de la Vie romantique, Paris. The image depicts a fictional scene from the battle of Morat, fought in 1476 between the Duke of Burgundy and a Swiss Confederate army at Morat near Bern.
Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
