Exhibitions and records of works of art

Prince Albert recognised the importance of photography to record and document notable exhibitions and works of art

AFTER A WORK PREVIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO RAPHAEL (1483-1520)

Head of a Youth wearing a Hat

1860

Albumen print | 11.7 x 8 cm (image) | RCIN 2864203

A photograph of a drawing now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. Pl 463), the attribution of which is matter of dispute. It was formerly ascribed to Raphael, but this view is generally no longer shared by most of modern scholars. It has been recently suggested that the drawing may be a copy after an roginal study by Raphael (Brejon de Lavergnée 1997, no.556). For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.

A copy of this photograph (RCIN 852173) can be found in the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection, portfolio 21 (970580)
