Photograph of a half-length portrait of David Rizzio (1533-66), Mary I of Scotland's private secretary. The sitter is depicted playing a violin, facing slightly to the right and gazing at the viewer. He wears a jerkin with laced cuffs and ruff as well as a signet ring.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Hon. Mrs Stewart-Mackenzie of Seaforth (1783-1862), Brahan Castle, Ross-shire.
