1858

Albumen print? | 18.5 x 23.6 cm (image) | RCIN 2864295

A photograph of a drawing now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv.no.172). It is catalogued as being an anonymous copy after a preparatory drawing attributed to Raphael (also in the Albertina; inv.no.171) for the fresco 'Angels appear to Abraham' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the vault of the fourth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican.

Dacos (2008; see Bibliographic References) attributes this drawing (and the execution of the fresco itself) to Giovanni Francesco Penni.

A copy of this photograph (RCIN 853423) can be found in the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection, portfolio 35 (970595)
