A seated man
1858Albumen print? | RCIN 2864361
A photograph of a drawing by Giulio Romano in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no. 249). This drawing is on the verso of a depiction of a kneeling man (for a photograph of it, see RCIN 851830).
The online catalogue of the Albertina collection states that the drawing was traditionally believed to be by Raphael, but it is now generally attributed to Giulio Romano. The appraisal of this drawing is made difficult by the fact that neither its date or its purpose are clear. Many references to other drawings and lost compositions have been proposed and the matter is still of dispute (see Bibliographic References).
A copy of this photograph (RCIN 854322) can be found in the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection, portfolio 47 (970607)
