A head of a Child
1860Albumen print | 10.2 x 7.9 cm (image) | RCIN 2864157
A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1504-11) formerly in the Musée Wicar, Lille, and now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.464).
Ruland (1876) connected the drawing with the figure of the Christ Child in the so-called ‘Large Cowper Madonna’ (1508), a painting by Raphael now in the National Gallery, Washington DC (inv. no.25). The drawing is now generally associated with different Raphael’s Madonnas, including the ‘Large Cowper Madonna’ and the ‘Mackintosh Madonna’ (see RCINs 850810 and 850839).
A copy of this photograph (RCIN 850812) can be found in the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection, portfolio 9 (970568)
