AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

1858

Albumen print? | RCIN 2864364

A photograph of a red chalk drawing traditionally attributed to Raphael now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no. 239).

The authorship of this drawing has been debated and many scholars as well as the 1992 catalogue of the Italian drawings in the Albertina ascribe it to Giulio Romano. Providing comparisons with other drawings by Raphael and Giulio, the more recent online catalogue of the Albertina attributes the drawing to Raphael and dates it around 1518-1520 (see Bibliographic References).

A copy of this photograph (RCIN 854323) can  be found in the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection, portfolio 47 (970607)
