c. 1859

Albumen print? | RCIN 2866350

Photograph of a half-length portrait of Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Forbes of Pitsligo (1678–1762). The sitter is facing three-quarters to the left and gazing at the viewer. He wears a powdered wig with ringlets, a laced cravat, a breastplate and a cloak over his right shoulder. A small piece of paper is attached to the work, in the lower left corner.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Sir John Stuart-Forbes, Bart. of Pitsligo (1804–1866), Fettercairn House, Kincardineshire. It was later attributed to Alexis-Simon Belle (1674-1734).
