A print after a painting then in the collection of Mr Munro of Novar, London. This painting was bought in 1980 by the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no. 2398), where it is catalogued as by Giulio Romano (c. 1518-23). Lettered with production details and title. Stamped with the publisher's blind stamp at lower centre (not in Lugt). A photograph of the ex Munro of Novar painting at RCIN RCIN 851107.

The composition is based on the so-called Madonna della Rosa, a picture now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no.302) generally attributed to Raphael and his workshop (c.1517-18). A photograph of the Madonna della Rosa can be found at RCIN 851103.

Showing the seated Virgin supporting the Christ Child with both hands, who stands on one foot on a cushion, with the Infant Baptist standing on the left and presenting the Child with an inscribed scroll and St Joseph coming out of a building holding a torch and the bridle of a donkey in the left background; in a landscape.
