Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

Glass plate negative of the north east side of the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle taken on the wedding day of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910) and Princess Alexandra of Denmark (1844-1925). The bride and groom are standing near King George IV's Gate and are being saluted by the Royal Guard. Other members of the royal family are visible beside the couple.
The ceremony took place at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on 10 March 1863. Although Prince Albert (1819-1861) did not live to see his son's marriage, he played a key role in arranging its betrothal.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
