24 May 1859 - 24 May 1895Wet collodion negative | RCIN 2084734
Glass plate negative of Queen Victoria's birthday table at Osborne. The table is adorned with gifts, including sculptures and paintings. Floral decorations are hung above and on the table, including flowers arranged in the monogram 'VA'.
Queen Victoria wrote of the present table in her journal: 'All the dear Children (7) excepting our 2 Boys, far away, were assembled with nosegays & took me to my present table, full of charming gifts. The Children had all done pieces of work, or drawings.'
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print of this work exists in the Royal Collection, see RCIN 2917895.
