Glass plate negative of (r-l): Peter Robertson; Charles Coutts; John Brown (1827-83); Charles Duncan (1826-1904) and J Smith photographed within the grounds of the Balmoral estate with three ponies belonging to the Queen and Prince Consort. 

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2160315.
