Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

UNKNOWN PERSON

Royal Park Wardens and Keepers

1865

RCIN 2083791

Glass plate negative of a full length group portrait of Royal Park Keepers pictured outside, with, from right to left: Henry Austin; Thomas Foker with donkey and cart; George Smith; Thomas Foster (d. 1890); Sampson Strickland; John Orme; and John Cole who holds a dog and guns. All wear top hats.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection, however a variant from the same sitting is represented by RCIN 2907100.
