Princess Helena (1846-1923) and Princess Louise, later Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939)

Glass plate negative featuring two full length portraits of Princess Helena and Princess Louise standing. The negative image on the left has been scratched out, an act perhaps indicative of a displeasing pose. In the right image, the sisters are shown holding a book. Princess Louise places one arm around her sister's shoulder. The princesses wear similar clothing consisting of a locket, light coloured shirt, tied at the waist with dark coloured material, and a dark coloured skirt.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from the intact portrait exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900212.
