Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

PRINCE ALFRED, DUKE OF EDINBURGH AND SAXE-COBURG & GOTHA (1844-1900)

Princess Alice (1843-78)

Mar 1862

RCIN 2082691

Glass plate negative featuring two full length portraits of Princess Alice seated. The princess faces three-quarters to the left with her hands clasped in front of her. A wooden chair can be seen in the background, to the right.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative exist in the Collection (RCINs 2900558 and 2900557).
