JOHN JABEZ EDWIN MAYALL (1813-1901)

Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78)

Feb 1861

RCIN 2082509

Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Princess Alice standing, facing to the right. She looks down at a book held in her hands, and rests her right elbow on a plinth beside her. A dark lace shawl is draped over her elbows.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900434.
