Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

JOHN JABEZ EDWIN MAYALL (1813-1901)

Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942)

1860

RCIN 2082592

Glass plate negative of a near full length portrait of Prince Arthur standing, facing towards the camera. The prince turns his head slightly to the right and looks ahead. He poses with his legs crossed and stands beside a small covered table, upon which he rests one hand. He is depicted in Highland dress.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. At least one print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2418606.
