Miss Sophie Weiss
c. 1859RCIN 2082719
Glass plate negative featuring two full-length portraits of Miss Sophie Weiss, Dresser to Queen Victoria from January 1852. The young woman is seated, facing the camera, her hands clasped in her lap. She is shown against a wall in the grounds of Osborne House.
The negative image on the left has been scratched out, an act perhaps indicative of a displeasing pose.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from the right image exists in the Collection, RCIN 2910154.
