Cathedrale d'Amiens

1855

Salted paper print | 44.0 x 34.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2584484

In 1855, Édouard Baldus (1813–89) was commissioned by Baron James de Rothschild (1792–1868), President of the rail company, Chemin de Fer du Nord, to take photographs of landmarks on the route of the Chemin de Fer du Nord. The photographs were printed and presented to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in an album Itineraires et Vues du Chemin de fer du nord - Visite de sa Majeste la Reine Victoria et de son Altesse Royale le Prince Albert 18-27 Aout 1855.

This salted paper print is from that album and depicts the central portal of the Cathedrale d'Amiens. The album also contains views of Boulogne, Paris and the Royal Train.
