AFTER FRANZ XAVER WINTERHALTER (1805-73)

Bracelet with photographs of royal children

1854-57

Silver plated bracelet with photographic portraits | 1.7 x 20.3 x 0.6 cm (whole object) | RCIN 52384

This silver plated bracelet features photographs of paintings of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and Prince Albert's (1819-61) nine children. The portraits are framed and joined by double winged putti heads. The final portrait of Princess Beatrice is suspended by a single winged putto head.

As the bracelet was given to Queen Victoria in 1854, it is likely the putto feature, holding a photographic portrait of Princess Beatrice, was added later, after her birth in 1857.
