Reports, circulars and memoranda on the organisation of the Great Exhibition
This collection, taken from The Archive of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, consists of miscellaneous papers relating to the organisation of the Great Exhibition of 1851 and establishment of the South Kensington Estate for the period of 1849-1864.
Various printed papers such as reports, circulars and memoranda, written by the Royal Commissioners are included, along with a group of records created or amended by Prince Albert (1819-61). The collection also contains a small group of records relating to the establishment of the South Kensington Estate in 1853 and various correspondence written by significant figures such as Robert Peel (1788-1850), William Ewart Gladstone (1809-98) and Benjamin Disraeli (1804-81).
