Prince Albert's Personal Papers

Papers relating to Prince Albert’s personal life and enthusiasms

RUSSELL, GEORGE; ASSISTANT SECRETARY, OFFICE OF WORKS C.1857-1869

Part of a letter from George Russell [to his father] from Rome concerning efforts to find the photographer Grillet at Naples, enclosing a letter from Augustus Craven on the same subject.

4 Mar 1861

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/297

Russell states that he wrote to Grillet about the Prince's commission but received no answer; the reason is clear from the letter he encloses from Augustus Craven. Craven lives in Naples and is a very good amateur photographer whose judgment about the qualifications of anyone he recommends may be trusted. The beginning of the letter is missing; addressee presumed from signature 'yours ever affectionately'.
