A volume containing a variety of miscellaneous private and official correspondence of the Prince Consort, dated between 1845 and 1853.
Included is correspondence with various members of European royalty and nobility, and with British government ministers on both national and international matters. Subjects covered in official correspondence include parliamentary proceedings, British foreign affairs, the administration of British colonies, Royal Household appointments, the granting of Honours and the proposed reconstruction of Westminster Bridge in 1852. Personal correspondence in the volume includes letters from the Belgian astronomer Lambert Adolphe Quetelet, Victoria, Princess Royal and Edward, Prince of Wales and covers the deaths of George Edward Anson, the 1st Duke of Wellington and Dowager Queen Adelaide.
