Letter from William Russell to Charles Ruland acknowledging receipt of his drawings.

Russell writes that his drawings have been safely returned. He regrets that the David & Goliath could not be photographed successfully; he thinks it an important drawing and too good for Giulio Romano. He mentions a print of Giulio Romano's treatment of the same subject in the Palazzo del Té, referred to in Carlo D'Arco's Life and Works of that painter, which is very different from, and inferior to, Raphael's composition. Russell goes on to report that the National Gallery's Giorgione, the picture and drawing by Raphael of the Vision of the Knight, and the Perugino of the Archangel Raphael were photographed the previous day in the Barrack Yard; the St Catherine and the Archangel Michael remain to be done, but the photographer has not appeared today, no doubt because of the gloomy morning. Russell concludes by asking whether the Prince Consort has had time to look at his Wilkie drawings.
