Letter from Ludwig Gruner to the Prince Consort reporting on Count Riesch's change of heart and asking whether the Prince now wishes the Riesch family's Raphael drawing to be photographed for his collection.

Gruner reports that Count Riesch has had second thoughts; he has brought the Raphael drawing (Massacre of the Innocents) to Dresden and written the letter to the Prince which Gruner encloses (see VIC/ADDA10/85/442). Gruner asks whether the Prince now wishes it to be photographed for his collection. It can be sent to England and returned via Royal Messenger, and Gruner is willing to take responsibility for this. If the Prince does want it photographed, Gruner asks for two prints, for Count Riesch and for the Königliches Kupferstich-Kabinett.

He reports that the drawings, prints and negatives which he sent earlier to London have been returned, although the negatives were not in good condition, despite the care that was taken in handling them, which only goes to show how difficult it is to transport negatives. Gruner encloses a letter from Professor Vogel von Vogelstein about the Riesch Raphael drawing (see VIC/ADDA10/424).

The letter is endorsed with a note confirming that the drawing was photographed in England, and the negative and three copy prints returned to Dresden on 13 February. The back of the letter is covered with pencil doodles.
