GRUNER, LUDWIG: DIRECTOR OF THE KÖNIGLICHES KUPFERSTICH-KABINETT, DRESDEN

Letter from Ludwig Gruner to Dr. Ernst Becker identifying drawings of amorini in Passavant, mentioning purchases of others, regretting a mistake he has made and reminding him of earlier questions.

14 Jan 1858

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/364

Gruner identifies Passavant's entry for [drawings of] two Amorini. He wishes Becker had mentioned specific ?bids for two [drawings], David and Peace. He cannot understand how he could have made such a mistake over the ?Gille drawing [drawings?], but wishes they had not been returned at once, as they could certainly have been sold in England, saving Becker the transport costs. Gruner hopes that Becker will nevertheless pay the small sum he mentioned into the bank, as other sums owed to him have not yet been paid.

Finally, Gruner reminds Becker about the photographs of the Lattanzio Gambara [frescoes] and the Osborne bath house, and asks whether Herr Grahl's photographs are to be [?mounted], and if so in what format.

The subjects of this letter are not clear, especially as there is no copy of the letter from Becker to which this is evidently the reply. But it probably relates to his earlier letters (see VIC/ADDA10/85/357 and VIC/ADDA10/85/360), and possibly to the auction of Professor Krüger's collection mentioned in VIC/ADDA10/85/360. See also VIC/ADDA10/85/365, evidently referring to the same sale.
