JOSEF SPITHÖVER (1813-92)
Letter from Joseph Spithöver to Dr. Ernst Becker in reply to his letters, explaining his delay in answering and asking whether the Prince still wishes his commission [in Rome] to be carried out.
25 Apr 1860Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/293
Spithöver acknowledges Becker's letters of 10 September (see VIC/ADDA10/85/291) and 28 February. He regrets that his reply has been lamentably slow owing to unusually unfavourable weather, Mr Anderson's illness, the need to wait for a favourable moment and for the information which 'a highly competent friend' had promised to send him, and which is in the enclosed note (possibly VIC/ADDA10/85/292). The Prince will be able to see from the enclosed note how many of the objects of which he wished to have photographs could actually be photographed. Mr Anderson is willing to do this in the summer if the Prince still wishes it.
Spithöver draws Becker's attention to a new edition of Passavant's Raphael which will come out soon and which may be very informative. He adds that the photographs of achitectural subjects which the Prince commissioned are ready, and asks how they should be dispatched.
The letter was written and signed by W. Haase on Spithöver's behalf.
