JOSEPH CUNDALL (1819-95)

Letter from Joseph Cundall to Dr. Ernst Becker reporting that Robert Howlett has been unable to produce a satisfactory photograph of the Raphel painting at Kensington Palace.

4 Aug 1858

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/27

Cundall writes that Howlett has asked him to report that it has been impossible to photograph the Raphael in Kensington Palace, although he has tried 4 days' exposure with a dry plate in bright sun. The painting is too yellow; even the best results, with wet collodion, are not good enough to show. Cundall asks for Becker's instructions regarding Warwick Castle.
