Prince Albert's Personal Papers

Papers relating to Prince Albert’s personal life and enthusiasms

Copy letter from Charles Ruland to Albert Moitessier asking him to photograph Raphael drawings in the Musée Fabre at Montpellier.

1 Dec 1859

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/228

Ruland mentions that Moitessier photographed several pictures by Raphael in the Montpellier Museum for the Prince Consort some time ago. The Prince would now like to obtain photographs of four drawings by Raphael in the Musée Fabre, and Ruland lists them: 1. an ink drawing of a man with his elbows on a balustrade, with the same head and hands repeated on the reverse; 2. a study for the Madonna Tempi at Munich; 3. a head of a woman, full face, on a very small piece of paper; 4. a study for the Virgin with the Chair. Ruland asks to be informed if the museum holds any other Raphael drawings. He asks for a reply as soon as possible.
