The battle of Constantine at the Milvian Bridge

c.1853-76

Albumen print | RCIN 852922

A photograph of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of R. W. Blake at Norwich, formerly in the Blenheim Collection. The drawing appears to be a copy of a drawing now in the Louvre which is generally described as the modello for the fresco of 'The Battle of Constantine at the Milvian Bridge', painted in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican between 1520 and 1524. For further discussion, see RCINs 852820, 852921.
  • Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
