Studies of hands and feet, and a male head
c.1853-76Albumen print | RCIN 852512
A photograph of a drawing now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no.262). The sheet is a compilation of drawings copied from originals by Raphael, all of which relate to his frescoes in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican. The hands are copied from a study sheet now in the British Museum, London (inv. no. Pp,1.74v), while the feet are taken from a drawing currently in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.Pl 446). The two originals by Raphael are preparatory for his fresco of Parnassus (c.1510-11). The head at lower right is copied from the verso of a sheet in Musée Fabre, Montpellier (inv. no.3184v), related to the figure leaning over a marble balustrade in the lower right corner of the Disputa (c.1508-09). For photographs of the originals, see RCINs 852454, 852507 and 852511. Another photograph of the Albertina drawing can be found at RCIN 852455.
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
