c.1853-76Albumen print | 33.2 x 23.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852511
A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1510) now in the British Museum, London (inv. no.Pp,1.74v). The drapery study is for the figure often identified as the Latin poet Horace, standing in the lower right corner of Raphael's fresco of Parnassus, painted in c.1510-11 in the Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican. The two lower hands also connect with this figure, while the other is for the right hand of one of the poets standing beneath trees on the same side of the fresco.
