Six draped figures, standing turned to the left
c.1810-1815Lithograph | 24.2 x 17.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852549
A lithograph after a drawing attributed on plate to Raphael once probably in Munich. Lettered with artists' names. Published in Christian von Mannlich, Les Oeuvres Lithographiques, vol.1, 12.
The drawing reproduced in this lithograph appears to be a copy of the group of philosophers just to the right of Aristotle in Raphael's 'School of Athens', painted in c.1509-10 in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican. A very similar drawing is housed in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle (RCIN 990322). The drawing reproduced in this lithograph might well be the other version of the Windsor sheet, which was recorded by Popham and Wilde (1949) as being in Munich.
