Vatican Frescoes

Six draped figures, standing turned to the left

c.1853-76

Salted paper print | RCIN 852548

A photograph of a drawing now in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle (RCIN 990322). The drawing is a copy of the group of philosophers just to the right of Aristotle in Raphael's 'School of Athens', painted in c.1509-10 in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican.

Popham and Wilde (1949) recorded the existence of another version of this drawing at Munich. They probably referred to the drawing reproduced in a lithograph by J. N. Strixner, an impression of which can be found at RCIN 852549.
  • Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
