A chiaroscuro woodcut by Andreani reproducing the almost entirely destroyed fresco 'Joshua renews the Covenant at Shechem' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the tenth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with attribution of the composition to Polidoro da Caravaggio. Signed and dated by printmaker. Trimmed to image. Second state.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.
