Apollo on Parnassus

after 1520

Engraving | 35.8 x 47.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852474

This engraving is a copy in the same direction of a print by Marcantonio Raimondi after a lost preparatory study (or finished modello) by Raphael for his fresco of Parnassus, painted in c.1510-11 in the Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican. An impression of Marcantonio's engraving can be found at RCIN 852473.

The copy can be distinguished from the original mainly by Apollo's lyre featuring seven strings instead of six as in Marcantonio's engraving.
