A study for the head of a Muse

A photograph of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of Miss Woodburn. The drawing is a copy of an auxiliary cartoon by Raphael for the head of the third standing muse to the right of Apollo in the fresco of Parnassus, painted in c.1510-11 in the Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican. The original drawing by Raphael is currently in a Private Collection (sold at Christie's, London, 8 December 2009, lot 43); a photograph of it can be found at RCIN 852497.
