published c.1811-16Lithograph | 19.6 x 15.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853658
A lithograph by Piloty reproducing the detail of God from a drawing, once probably in Munich, after the almost entirely destroyed fresco 'God's Covenant with Noah' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the third bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with attribution of the composition to Raphael and signed by the printmaker. Printed within an imitation of a ruled pen and ink border. Published in Christian von Mannlich, Les Oeuvres Lithographiques (1811-16), vol. 2, 18.
Les Oeuvres Lithographiques reproduced drawings then in the collection of the King of Bavaria.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.
