ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGES REVERDY (ACTIVE C.1531-1564/70)

The Presentation in the Temple

c.1530-1570

Engraving | 27.5 x 32.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853270

A print reproducing the composition of the tapestry of ‘The Presentation in the Temple’, one from a twelve-piece set depicting scenes from the Life of Christ, traditionally known as the ‘Scuola Nuova’ (eleven of which survive today in the Vatican Museums).

The authorship of the print is object of debate. Not mentioned in Passavant (1860), it was catalogued by Ruland (1876) as 'anonymous'. Baudi di Vesme (1938) suggested an attribution to Georges Reverdy which has been recently rejected by Leutrat (2007). For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
