The Massacre of the Innocents

An impression of just the black line block of a chiaroscuro woodcut reproducing the composition of 'The Massacre of the Innocents', a three-panel tapestry from a twelve-piece set depicting scenes from the Life of Christ traditionally known as ‘Scuola Nuova’ (eleven of which survive today in the Vatican Museums). In addition of being lettered with an attribution of the design to Raphael, the complete final woodcut is dated 1544 and is signed with the woodcutter's monogram. See RCIN 853226.
