One from a three-plate etching based on the 'The Massacre of the Innocents', a three-panel tapestry from a twelve-piece set depicting scenes from the Life of Christ traditionally known as ‘Scuola Nuova’ (eleven of which survive today in the Vatican Museums). Dated and signed with etcher's monogram (see Nagler, III, no.616) at lower right on a stone. Lettered at upper right: MATHEI. II.C. On watermarked paper, annotated in pencil on the back. Not in Ruland (1876).
