The figure of St Paul is a detail taken from Raphael's tapestry cartoon of 'The Conversion of the Proconsul' currently on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, from the Royal Collection (RCIN 912948). The composition was reproduced in an engraving generally attributed to Agostino Veneziano dating c.1516 (RCIN 853161).
