A print on two joined sheets representing a vertical pilaster decorated with grotesque ornament and incorporating various motifs, including a winged personification of Fame, the figures of Hercules and Atlas and a winged figure holding a basket of flowers (central panel, from top to bottom). Dated and lettered with artists' names. Numbered at upper left: No. 12. Published in G. Volpato and G. Ottaviani, 'Loggie de Rafaele nel Vaticano', vol.III, plate 12.
The central vertical panel is adapted from the border woven along the side edge of 'St Paul Preaching at Athens', one of the Sistine Chapel tapestries designed by Raphael upon commission of Pope Leo X now in the Vatican Museums. For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
