AFTER POLIDORO DA CARAVAGGIO (C. 1499-1543)

Various studies of women

c.1860-1876

Carbon print | 19.6 x 28.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854415

A photograph of a red chalk drawing by Polidoro da Caravaggio (c.1525-1527) now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no. 399). Annotated on the verso.

According to the online catalogue of the Albertina Museum collection (see Bibliographic References), because of the differences with Polidoro's design for the "Meeting of Janus and Saturn" at Villa Lante around 1524 (where the figures appear more static), this drawing is to be dated around 1525-1527, as the women's movements are already more dynamic and slide more organically into one another.

This photograph is included in the Raphael Collection despite there appear to be no direct link between it and the works of Raphael.
