AFTER A WORK COPYING RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

Various anatomical studies

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 30.5 x 19.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854383

A photograph of a pen and ink drawing after Raphael now in the Musée des Beaux Arts, Lille (inv. no. 490). This drawing depicts a nude man and various anatomical studies. Annotated on the verso.

Traditionally attributed to the Florentine period of Raphael (c.1507-1508), this drawing is now considered to be a copy. The anatomical studies show similarities with various drawings by Raphael (Albertina, Vienna, inv. no. 117; Ashmolean  Museum, Oxford: inv. nos. WA1846.178 and WA1846.179, which are photographed at RCINs 852251, 852852 and 852853; British Museum, inv. no. 1895-9-15-624). See Bibliographic References.
