AFTER A WORK BY A FOLLOWER OF RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

The bust of a man in profile

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 40.0 x 26.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854584

A photograph of a drawing depicting the bust of a man in profile now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no. WA1846.229), where it is attributed to a follower of Raphael. Annotated on the verso.

Parker (see Bibliographic References) rejected Robinson's opinion that the drawing is to be ascribed to Giulio Romano and he catalogued it as "no earlier than the middle of the sixteenth century". Ruland (1876) referred to it as copied from an ancient bust.
