AFTER A WORK COPYING PIETRO PERUGINO (CITTÀ DELLA PIEVE C. 1450-FONTIGNANO 1523)

Quintus Fabius Maximus

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 23.0 x 14.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854350

A photograph of a pen and ink drawing after Pietro Perugino now in the Gallerie dell'Accademia, Venice (inv. no. 101 verso). This drawing is on the verso of a sheet of three female figures (see RCIN 851397 for a photograph of the recto). Annotated on the verso.

This drawing may be a copy after a lost preparatory study or modello for the figure of Quintus Fabius Maximus frescoed by Perugino on one of the lunettes of the Collegio del Cambio, Perugia (c.1496-1500). Various differences have been noted between the drawing and the fresco, such as the different helmet (see Bibliographic References).
