AFTER RAPHAEL (1483-1520)

A nude man advancing

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 24.6 x 15.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854369

A photograph of a pen and ink drawing by Raphael (c.1506-1508) now in the British Museum (inv. no. Pp,1.75 verso). Annotated on the verso.

This drawing depicts a study for a nude man and it is on the verso of a sheet showing two men advancing over the body of a third (see RCIN 854368 for a photograph of the recto). Joannides (see Bibliographic References) believes that the hand depicted on the verso was "drawn at a fairly late stage in the preparation of a painting, but it cannot be linked to any surviving works".
