A bust of a young girl
c.1853-1876Albumen print | RCIN 854259
Two photographs of a wax model of the bust of a young girl now in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. Pl.1).
Several hypotheses about the origin of the bust have been proposed, without reaching a consensus: some researchers attributed it to an Italian sculptor of the Renaissance, while more recently it has been proposed that it was executed in the seventeenth or eighteenth century, The names of Domenico del Barbiere, a Florentine sculptor and Orsino Benintendi, a wax sculptor of the fifteenth century, have also been considered.
